Sonepur: In another case of transport of unaccounted cash before elections, police seized around Rs 2 lakh from dicky of a motorcycle in Odisha’s Sonepur district.
A police team was carrying out checking of vehicles as part of election exercise at Misrapalli square in Binka town of the district on Tuesday when they intercepted a motorcycle. On checking the dicky of the bike, the police found Rs 1.95 lakh in cash.
On being questioned about the sources of money, bike rider Basant Pardia of Hingama village under Ulunda block in the district could not give a satisfactory answer. He also could not produce any document in support of the cash.
Since more than Rs 50,00 is not allowed to be carried without permission as per election restrictions, the money has been seized and will be deposited in the district treasury. It will be returned to the rightful owner after valid documents are produced with the authorities, said additional tehsildar of Binka Dayaram Meher.
It may be noted that the police had seized more than Rs 55 lakh from a car during checking at Binka College square on April 6. Similarly on Monday, the police had seized Rs 3.5 lakh from a car in Khetrajpur of Sambalpur district.
