Bhubaneswar: A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance officials in Jajpur district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man to help him in a family dispute matter.
The accused has been identified as Abhay Kumar Nayak, SI at Sukinda Police Station in Jajpur district.
He was apprehended by Vigilance sleuths while demanding and taking bribe of Rs.5,000/- from a complainant to help him in a family dispute matter, an official statement said.
The accused had taken Rs 1000/- earlier and asked the complainant t to pay Rs 4000/- further, threatening to entangle him in a criminal case otherwise.
Left with no option, the man reported the matter to the Vigilance and its officials made the plan and trapped SI Nayak while taking the demanded bribe money from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Nayak and seized.
In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance registered a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway.
