Police SI Critical After SUV Rams Into Check-Post In Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh: A Sub-Inspector of Police was critically injured when an SUV rammed into a check-post during routine inspection of vehicles in Sohela area of Odisha’s Bargarh district.

As per sources, the incident took place on Sunday night at Dasamail Lebadi Chhak under the jurisdiction of Sohela police station in the district. The injured SI has been identified as Amit Dhal, posted at Sohela police station.

Police said Dhal was on duty during the inspection drive when the speeding SUV hit him, causing grievous injuries to his waist and thigh. The SI was rushed to a private hospital for treatment and his condition is stated to be critical.

Locals said the SI was standing in front of the check-post and guiding vehicles towards the police team stationed there for a routine inspection. The SUV driver allegedly failed to control his speeding vehicle and rammed into Dhal, throwing him several feet into the air.

As other police personnel rushed to help Dhal, the SUV driver reportedly fled the scene immediately, leaving the vehicle at the spot.

Police seized the four-wheeler and launched a search operation to trace the absconding driver. They are also trying to ascertain whether the incident was intentional or an accident.

Investigation is being conducted by examining all angles, while police are collecting CCTV footage from nearby areas as part of the probe.
