Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police has solved the murder case of an unidentified woman in Cuttack and arrested three persons in this connection.
Speaking at a presser, here on Sunday, Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh and Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena said it was a challenging case for them as the woman could not be identified nor a missing case was filed. The case was solved due to close coordination among different police stations in the state, Gujarat Police and feedbacks from the people.
The woman was found murdered on Kathjodi river bank near Paramhans under Kandarpur police limits in Cuttack district on Friday morning. While the police could not find any evidence about the woman, a bill of a tailor shop was found during a detailed search at the crime scene.
As the tailoring bill did not have details about the address, the police circulated its picture on social media seeking information. They were informed by a respondent that it belonged to Gujarat. On the Commissionerate Police’s request, Gujarat Police traced the tailoring shop.
While the shop owner could not identify the customer, he told the police that he had made payment through UPI. Tracing the UPI number, the Commissionerate Police identified the person as Jagannath Dehuri of Badasobala village under Mahakalapada police station. Further investigation led the police to arrest him.
During questioning, Jagannath revealed the details about the murder. He said the victim was Padmavati Samal, wife of his elder brother Balaram Dehuri. Balaram was suspecting that Padmavati had an illicit relationship with somebody and wanted to eliminate her.
Balaram sought the help of Jagannath and their cousin Happy Dehuri. After they agreed to help, Balaram made a plan.
As per the plan, Balaram took Padmavati to Banki on a scooter on the plea of medical check-up. While returning, Balaram went to Kathjodi banks with his wife. Jagannath and Happy were already ready there. They hacked Padmavati with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot. They also disfigured her face with a stone and left the place.
The police have also arrested Balaram and Happy and questioning them for further details.
