Puri: A team of policemen, who were detained by the villagers in the district, were released following intervention of higher officials on Friday.
According to reports, 10 policemen including two Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASIs) of Gop police station had gone to Redhua village under Mahalapada panchayat to conduct a raid to nab a person accused of burglary.
Opposing the raid, the villagers detained the police team. On being informed, Nimapara Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pradip Kumar Dalei accompanied by IICs of Konark, Nimapara and Kakatpur police stations and a platoon of policemen reached the spot.
They convinced the villagers through discussion to refrain from the illegal act and rescued the police team after six hours of detention, the reports said.
