New Delhi: Politicians have been the subject of scorn and criticism for making controversial remarks from time to time. BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj is the latest to make headlines for the wrong reasons.
On Sunday, he took to social media to urge citizens to equip their homes with ‘cold drink bottles and arrows’ in case a group of people attack their homes or neighbourhoods. He added that police won’t come to their rescue in such a situation, hence they should be ready.
“If this crowd comes suddenly to your street, neighbourhood or house, there is a remedy for it… For such guests, every house should have one or two boxes of cold drinks and some arrows. Jai Shri Ram,” former Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member Sakshi Maharaj wrote in Facebook.
He also posted a picture of a crowd charging down a road armed with lathis.
“The police will not come to save you, but will instead hide to save themselves. After these people do ‘jihad’ and leave, the police will come with lathis and form an investigation committee after everything is over,” he further wrote.
There have been clashes between two communities in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri and other states recently, on the occasions of Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti.
This is not first time that Sakshi Maharaj has made contentious comments.
Here’s some of his previous controversial comments:
* In 2015, he said Hindu women must produce “at least 4 children to protect the religion”… Taking a dig at Muslim community, he added that the concept of “four wives and forty children just won’t work in India”
* “When a Muslim dies, they give 20 lakh rupees, but Hindu doesn’t even get 20,000,” he said after ex-gratia was raised following the On the Dadri mob lynching incident
* He said Hindus will are prepared to kill to protect cows from being slaughtered. “We won’t remain silent if somebody tries to kill our mother (cow)… We are ready to kill and get killed”
* He claimed he was a true Muslim, while Prophet Mohammed was a great ‘yogi’ being the biggest practitioner of Yoga
