In an innovative move, Kolkata police personnel took to the streets and sang ‘We shall overcome’ to boost the morale of citizens who have been confined to their homes amidst the nationwide lockdown enforced from March 24 midnight to check the spread of COVID-19.
Microphones in hand, and with their colleagues clapping and waving mobile flashlights, the ‘lead’ singers also crooned a modified version of a popular number by Anjan Dutta, a singer, lyricist and filmmaker. Through their songs, the policemen urged people to continue staying indoors as much as possible, maintain social distancing and follow all other guidelines being issued by the government.
The impromptu street concert was highly appreciated as people gathered on their balconies and applauded the cops’ effort. A video of the cops singing, posted on Twitter by DC SED Kolkata Police, was a huge hit and went viral.
