Mumbai: The ‘Drishyam’ franchise attained cult status in India.
After the original Jeetu Joseph-directed Malayalam film starring Mohanlal, ‘Drishyam’ was remade in Hindi, with Ajay Devgn playing the lead role in the two-part crime thriller.
Now, ‘Drishyam’ will expand further and go global. A Korean remake of the film will be followed by a Hollywood venture.
Panorama Studios has joined hands with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to make ‘Drishyam’ in English.
Panorama Studios has acquired international remake rights to the first and second parts of ‘Drishyam’ from original producers Aashirvad Cinemas.
The popular franchise – which had a successful run in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala and even Chinese — is being developed in the US and Korea, while a deal for a Spanish-language version is al also in the works.
“Drishyam’s clever narrative has a universal appeal and we are keen to celebrate this story with audiences worldwide. We are very happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create this story in English for Hollywood. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries in the next three to five years,” Chairman and MD of Panorama Studios Kumar Mangat Pathak said.
“The film is a timeless thriller that has entranced audiences across the globe. We can’t wait to bring the movie to fans here in the US,” Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream Pictures said in a joint statement.
