Bhadrak: Three robbers, who posed as tenants and took a room on rent, looted their landlord of cash and ornaments in Chandbali area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
According to sources, the three young men who had taken a room on rent in the house of Jaydev Rout only two days ago, committed the crime on Sunday night.
Jaydev had recently rented out a room in the house to the three men who claimed to be working as security guards on the Bhadrak-Dhamra railway line. The accused had claimed that they wanted a room to take rest during the day as they work in the night.
The three knocked on the door on Sunday night. When the landlord’s wife opened the door, they threatened the elderly couple with a knife and demanded all their money and jewelleries.
Jaydev and his wife Sajani handed over ornaments and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees out of fear. The robbers then fled the scene on a bike.
The matter came to light after the elderly couple lodged a complaint with the police.
A police team visited their house on Monday and began an investigation into the incident. Efforts are on to identify and trace the accused.
