Cuttack: Despite fall in daily positive cases, post-COVID complicacies remain an area of concern in the state, said a specialist of SCB Medical College and Hospital, here on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Nivedita Pani, department of anaesthesiology & critical care, SCB Medical, said though daily COVID positive cases have gone below 500 in the state, people should follow the preventive guidelines as there is every possibility of another variant of the coronavirus to break out.
She said the people having lungs, diabetes and heart related complaints have developed complicacies after being infected by coronavirus. The elderly patients and those having history of other ailments have also complained of prolonged illness after recovering from COVID, she added.
Though the patients can take oxygen, Dr Pani warned that they should refrain from its use on their own and advised them to consult the doctors for the purpose. “Oxygen should be taken like a medicine. It has to be administered to the patients in right doses and frequencies,” she said.
Stating that improper intake of oxygen may affect lungs and heart, she said it may lead to diseases like sinusitis and joint pain. Besides, wrong doses of oxygen may cause loss of eyesight, she warned.
