New Delhi: Twitter restored the accounts of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders on Saturday morning.
The micro-blogging giant had blocked the accounts of around 5,000 Congress leaders and workers last week for posting pictures of the family of a minor girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi.
The former Congress president had later deleted the objectionable tweet. Rahul has also accused the Narendra Modi government of harassing the Opposition.
Besides Rahul, the Twitter handles of senior Congress leaders such as KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala, Rohan Gupta, Pawan Khera, and Manickam Tagore were also restored.
Twitter said Rahul had earlier appealed against the suspension of his account. He has also submitted a copy of the formal consent of the girl’s family to use the image as part of his appeal.
“We have followed the necessary due diligence process to review the appeal in order to protect the safety and privacy of the affected individuals,” Twitter said in a statement on Saturday.
Rahul’s account was temporarily blocked after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a notice to Twitter. The Commission asked Twitter to act against the Congress leader’s handle for tweeting pictures that went against the juvenile justice law.
