Phulbani: A postman has been penalised for delivering a letter late to a receiver in Daringbadi area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
As per reports, the district consumer disputes redressal forum directed the postman, identified as Priyatam Majhi, to pay a compensation of Rs 20,000 for delayed delivery of a letter.
The postman had reportedly delivered a letter to complainant Priyabrat Sahu after ten days around two years ago.
The matter came to light when the complainant missed the date to appear in a case before the Station Information Commission (SIC) scheduled on November 30, 2022. Following his failure to appear before it, the SIC dismissed Sahu’s case.
Sahu thereafter filed a complaint with the district consumer disputes forum, seeking justice. During hearing, the postman reportedly confessed his negligence before forum president Purna Chandra Mishra, Indian Express reported.
Following this, the forum ordered the postman to compensate Sahu for the loss incurred due to his delayed delivery of letter. The postman paid the compensation amount of Rs 20, 000 to the complainant on Tuesday, the report said.
