Postmaster Held For Swindling Depositors’ Money In Odisha

Sundargarh: A postmaster has been arrested for allegedly swindling lakhs of rupees belonging to depositors in Biramitrapur area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

As per sources, the incident took place at Andhari branch post office under the jurisdiction of Biramitrapur police station in the district.

The irregularities came to light when a depositor, identified as Sunita Sahu, noticed that Rs 10,000 was withdrawn from her savings account without her knowledge. On inquiry, it was found that the money had been misappropriated by the then postmaster, identified as Suchita Khes.

Several other accounts at the post office were verified and it was found that large-scale irregularities had taken place. Deposits of many account holders had allegedly been siphoned off.

Based on complaints by affected depositors, police arrested the postmaster on Saturday. Further investigation is underway.

The incident triggered outrage among people and several depositors staged a protest demanding immediate steps by the postal department to return their money.
