Power Tariff In Odisha May Go Up From April

Bhubaneswar: The power tariff in the state is likely to go up from April as the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) is set to hold public hearing on tariff proposals of the distribution and other companies.

The OERC is slated to hold public hearing on the proposals of the distribution companies as well as bulk supplier Gridco, and generators, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), Odisha Power Transmission Company (OPTCL) from February 17, sources said.

The hearings, which will commence on February 17, will continue till February 27.

If the OERC accepts the proposals of these companies electricity tariff may increase with effect from April.

Electricity tariff has not been increased in the state for three consecutive years. While the electricity tariff has remained unchanged for 2 years, last year the retail supply charge for domestic consumers in each slab was reduced by 10 paise per unit.

Currently, the electricity tariff for domestic consumers in the state is Rs 2.90 for up to 50 units, Rs 4.70 for 51 to 200 units, Rs 5.70 for 200 to 400 units and Rs 6.10 per unit for more than 400 units.

Some companies are reported to have proposed to increase the electricity tariff, the sources said.
