Pre-Monsoon Rain Begins In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday confirmed the onset of pre-monsoon rainfall in almost all parts of Odisha.

Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, additional director general, IMD, Mrutyunjay Mahapatra said pre-monsoon rainfall in the state will continue for the next 4-5 days but  there will be a delay in the onset of the south-west monsoon.

“The south-west monsoon has advanced further into the Andamans and is now moving towards the Kerala coast. Taking the wind speed into consideration, it is expected that the monsoon will hit the Kerala coast by June 6. As the monsoon usually hits the Odisha coast around June 10, after hitting the Kerala coast on May 30, the onset of monsoon in Odisha will either be later part of second week of June or early part of third week of June,” Mahapatra said.
