Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Centre (IMD) has predicted pre-monsoon rain in Odisha from June 1.
Since the southwest monsoon is most likely to hit the Kerala coast either on May 29 or 30, under its effect, most parts of Odisha will experience pre-monsoon rain from June 1, said an IMD release.
According to Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, the temperature in the coastal area has come down appreciably due to the wind flow from the Bay of Bengal towards the coastal areas.
However, intense humid conditions would prevail in coastal areas during the period due to excess water vapour in the lower atmosphere while there would be no let-up in the heat wave conditions in the interior region of the state due to the least content of water vapour in the atmosphere, he said.
He further said there will be no change in the weather condition in coastal and interior pockets till May 31.
Sahu further said the IMD has sounded Nor’wester warning for nine districts of Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sundargarh, Koraput, Ganjam and Keonjhar districts from Monday till 8.30 am on Tuesday. People in these districts have been advised to stay on alert as thunderstorm accompanied by hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is likely to occur during the period.
