Nilagiri: Tension prevailed at different colleges in Balasore district, ahead of the students’ union elections scheduled to be held in universities and colleges across Odisha on October 11.
At least five students were injured after a violent clash broke between two groups of students at Jamusuli Laxmi Narayan College in Jaleswar. The injured students were rushed to the community health centre at Basta for treatment.
Several properties of the college were set on fire by some students following the clash.
Similarly, the students’ union election has been cancelled at Nilagiri College here and the educational institution closed sine die following violence.
The move came after a group of students hurled bombs on the college premises and ransacked the doors and windows of the college.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed in and around the campus to prevent any untoward incident.
