Bhubaneswar: Odisha police has been able to carry out successful operations against the Maoists due to timely and precise information provided by the Intelligence department, said Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma on Sunday.

“Owing to the strong intelligence network, the state police has successfully carried out a series of operations against the Left-wing ultras in recent times,” he told mediapersons here.

In the three operations carried out last year, seven cadres were killed and a huge cache of arms and ammunition seized from Maoist camps, the DGP said.

“Besides, we are preparing an action plan to carry out operations against the Red rebels in the cut-off areas of Malkangiri and other remote areas of the state,” he added.

Giving details about Sanjib and Rakesh, the two Maoists of Balangir-Bargarh Mahasamund (BBM) Divisional Committee, killed in an encounter with DVF and SOG personnel in Balangir district on Saturday night, Sharma said the duo was carrying a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh respectively.

“Police raided the area in time after receiving correct information. There was no casualty among the security personnel during the operation,” he informed.

The DGP also informed that the BBM Divisional Committee of the outlawed CPI-Maoist is operating in Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.

“The Committee under the leadership of its secretary Alavala Chandrahas alias Pramod alias Pandu is having two platoons of armed Maoists, one in Bargarh and the other in Balangir. These armed ultras are presently operating in the border area of these two districts,” he pointed out.
