Sambalpur: A 27-year-old pregnant woman admitted in the maternity and gynaecology ward of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur district tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
Sources said the woman, who had a travel history to Goa, was referred to VIMSAR from Rourkela on Thursday midnight. She showed COVID-19 symptoms on Friday and her swab test came out positive. A re-examination confirmed that she was indeed infected.
Following this, the patient was shifted to the COVID hospital in Sambalpur. Her health condition is reportedly serious.
VIMSAR spokesperson Dr Benudhar Pandey said a PG doctor, a house surgeon, a staff nurse and an attendant who came in direct contact with the woman were sent to a quarantine centre.
Pandey said the entire ward where the woman stayed has been sanitised. The other patients in the ward have been transferred to a special ward.
