Puri: Preparations are going on in full swing in Jagannath temple of Odisha’s Puri town for celebration of ‘Gamha Purnima’ or ‘Rakhi Purnima’ and birthday of Lord Balabhadra on Thursday.
As per tradition, Patara Bisoyi servitors have completed making the ‘rakhi’ that will be tied by Devi Subhadra on Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra on the day of Raksha Bandhan. The servitors have made the ‘rakhi’ with ‘Basunga Patra’ supplied by the temple administration.
While the rakhi of red and yellow colour is meant for Lord Jagannath and blue and purple rakhi is for his elder brother Lord Balabhadra. The servitors have also prepared areca nuts necklaces for the deities.
“The preparation of rakhi and necklaces starts after the completion of Chitalagi Amabasya rituals in the temple. We finish the work at least two days ahead of the festival,” said Patara Bisoyi servitor Jagannath Patra.
At the same time, the servitors are engaged in making preparations for celebration of Lord Balabhadra’s birthday on Gamha Purnima on the same day.
