Cuttack: As preliminary ritual for Durga Puja has already started, the Cuttack Peace Committee held a preparatory meeting on Sunday for peaceful celebration of Dussehra in the city.
The meeting discussed arrangements for peaceful celebration of Dussehra and immersion of the idols at the end of the festival in the commercial city.
It was reportedly decided that high decibel DJs will not be allowed during immersion procession and steps would be taken to make the celebration drug-free. Dashami is scheduled to be held on October 24 and immersion ceremony on October 25.
The preliminary ritual of ‘Mati Anukula’ was performed on the auspicious occasion of ‘Janmashtami’ in the city which is known for grand celebration of Dussehra with massive gates, arcades and huge statues of Goddess Durga. Members of different puja committees collected the holy soil from different sources for starting construction of the idols on the day.
The city also witnesses grand ‘Bhasani’ (immersion) procession of Devi idols. Large number of people participate in the immersion procession that is carried out on a long stretch through lane and sub-lanes amid bursting of crackers and music bands.
