Bhubaneswar: Adequate measures are being taken to strengthen efforts to address swine flu and dengue situation in the state, Health Secretary P K Meherda said on Sunday.
Taking stock of the situation at a review meeting here, Meherda briefed the officials concerned on the recent upsurge in the cases of swine flu and dengue in Odisha. He said swine flu has so far claimed eight lives this season. Keeping this in view, intensive campaigns have been started to enhance the level of awareness regarding the preventive measures.
Assuring that there was no need to panic, Meherda said, “Those infected by swine flu in the state are migration cases. The general public is advised not to take any vaccine for swine flu without consulting the doctor as only doctors and other medical staff engaged in the handling such patients are currently being inoculated.”
Highlighting the dengue status in Odisha, he said two persons have died and 370 tested positive for the vector-borne disease so far this year.
