Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Bhubaneswar on Thursday for a two-day visit to Odisha during which she is slated to address the state Assembly.
The President was accorded a warm welcome at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) by Governor Haribabu Kambhampati ,Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Murmu is scheduled to address the Odisha Assembly on the opening day of the winter session from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm on Thursday. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will also be present during her speech in the Assem
bly.
With this address, Murmu will script history as the first President of India to deliver a speech n the state Assembly. Her landmark speech marks a significant moment in the state’s legislative history and underscores the importance of Odisha in national governance.
As per information, the President Murmu is also slated to spend some time in the Assembly’s Room No. 11, which served as her office when she was an MLA and held positions in the Fisheries Department and Transport Minister between 2000 and 2004.
Earlier, the winter session of the Assembly commenced in the morning with an obituary reference to former members of the House.
Chief Minister Majhi moved the condolence motion, and the Assembly observed a one-minute silence in their memory. Following the tribute, the House was adjourned till 4 PM.
On the second day of the session on Friday, the state government is likely to present the Supplementary Budget. The winter sitting will continue till December 31.
