President Droupadi Murmu Embarks On Historic 3-Nation Africa Visit

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday morning left for Algeria as part of her three-nation Africa visit. She will visit Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi from October 13-19.

Sharing a post on X, the Rashtrapati Bhavan, stated, “President Droupadi Murmu departs for her State visits to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi. This will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Head of State to these nations.”

Notably, this will be the first-ever visit by the President of India to the three African nations: Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi. The President will hold bilateral meetings and interact with the Indian diaspora.  

On October 13, President Murmu will land in Algeria, where she will meet the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a discussion on bilateral issues. She will attend a reception organised by the Indian diaspora and address the Algeria-India Economic Forum at the Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology Pole University. President Murmu will conclude the day with a banquet hosted in her honor. 

The next day, she will pay her respects at the Maqam Echahid monument in memory  of those killed during the Algerian War of Independence. 

In the second leg of her visit, President Murmu will arrive in Mauritania on October 16, marking the first high-level visit from India to the African nation since its independence in 1960. Upon arrival, she will hold a one-on-one meeting with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. 

Following their discussions, they will sign four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as culture, foreign office institutions, foreign office consultations, and visa waiver agreements for diplomatic and official passport holders. President Murmu will also address the Indian community.

President Murmu will arrive in Malawi on October 17, at the invitation of the Malawian President. She will have a one-on-one meeting with him, followed by addressing a business event and meeting with the Indian diaspora. During her visit, three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on youth affairs, sports, and cultural exchange will be signed between the two countries.
