Puri: President Droupadi Murmu visited Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri on Wednesday and offered prayers before the sibling deities inside the 12th century shrine.
In view of the President’s visit, general darshan at Shree Jagannath Temple was suspended for four hours till 10 am. Tight security arrangemen
ts were made for her visit to the shrine.
During her visit, the President performed Pinda Daan rituals at the sacred Swetaganga and had darshan of the deities inside the temple.
Murmu, who reached Odisha on February 2 on a six-day visit to the state, was accompanied by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during her visit to Srimandir.
Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb welcomed the President at the Lion’s Gate as she entered the Temple. Murmu then proceeded to the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) to offer prayers. The President spent time in the temple from 7.45 am to 8.10 am.
The temple administration presented her with a khandua and a pattachitra as tokens of honour.
