President Droupadi Murmu Suspends IPS Officer For ‘Misbehaving’ With Woman In Night Club

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu has suspended an IPS officer accused of misbehaving with a woman tourist at beach club in North Goa, recently.

A Koan, a 2009-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been placed under suspension with “immediate effect” as departmental proceedings against him are contemplated, the order issued on Wednesday said.

Police investigation had revealed that the IPS officer, who visited the beach-facing night club in the Baga area on August 7 despite being on medical leave due to a spondylitis-related neck ailment, allegedly accosted the woman and made objectionable remarks under the influence of alcohol. The woman had then slapped the officer.

The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera, which was cited as a crucial piece of evidence by police in their report.

The suspension order was issued after the Ministry of Home Affairs forwarded the complete inquiry findings of the Goa government to President Murmu for immediate departmental action.

The deputy inspector general (DIG) rank officer was earlier relieved of his charge by the Goa government and asked to report to the state Director General of Police (DGP), the PTI reported.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had also sternly asserted that there would be no leniency in addressing this matter, when it was raised in the Assembly last week.
