Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday paid floral tributes to Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar, the chief architect of Indian Constitution, on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas at AG Chhaka in Bhubaneswar.
She will also be visiting her birthplace, Uparbeda, for the first time since assuming the highest office. Murmu proceeded to Mayurbhanj via Kalaikunda Airport in West Bengal and then travelled to tribal village of Uparbeda by road.
She was born on June 20, 1958, in this village in Mayurbhanj district.
During this trip, she will also visit Uparbeda Government Upper Primary School, her alma mater, where she spent her early years as a student. The school has been meticulously decorated to welcome her, with students and teachers eagerly awaiting for an opportunity to interact with her. Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ramsingh Khuntia, have been supervising the preparations.
“The President is visiting her birthplace for the first time since assuming the highest office. People from all walks of life are thrilled and proud to see her,” said Khuntia.
Besides tribal dance performance, the villagers have also decorated the streets with ‘Jhooti chita’ (a traditional Odia white art ) to welcome her. Her relatives have baked different types of cakes, including arisa and manda pitha, and rice and saga delicacy.
At 12.05 pm, President Murmu will head to her ancestral home to meet her relatives, before proceeding to Rairangpur.
A total of 40 platoons of police force have been deployed at Uparbeda for her security.
Later in the day, she will engage with students and teachers of Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Rairangpur.
The President is also scheduled to lay the foundation of Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh railway lines, a tribal research and development centre, Dandbose airport and a sub-divisional hospital in Rairangpur on December 7.
