New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the medal winners of the recently concluded Gold Coast Games on Monday.
The Gold Coast Games was India’s third most successful CWG performances. The contingent won a total of 66 medals, which included 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze.
Shuttlers Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu, wrestler Babita Phogat, shooters Jitu Rai, Manu Bhaker and Anish Bhanwala, boxers MC Mary Kom and Sushil Kumar and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu were present at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
“Delighted to meet Indian medal winners of Commonwealth Games 2018 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Their hardwork, tenacity and perseverance continue to inspire millions to bring laurels for the country. The entire nation is extremely proud of their remarkable achievements,” the President tweeted after the meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met the medal winners and congratulated them for their success.
Citing examples of Mary Kom and Pullela Gopichand, he encouraged the young sportspersons who have done well at the Games.
Among others, Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore was also present.
