Rs 1300-Cr Classroom Scam: President Murmu Grants Sanction To Probe AAP’s Manish Sisodia & Satyendar Jain

New Delhi: There’s fresh trouble for Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain after President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday approved registration of FIR against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in an alleged Rs 1,300-crore scam in construction of classroom in Delhi government schools, PTI reported.

The case is in connection with the construction of 2,405 classrooms in 193 government schools in the national capital by the previous government.

President Murmu granted sanction to Delhi’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) under Section 17A of Prevention of Corruption Act to initiate a probe against Sisodia and Jain based on Central Vigilance Commission’s (CVC) February 17, 2020 report highlighting “glaring irregularities” in the construction of classrooms by the PWD.

Sisodia was Education minister, and Jain PWD minister of Delhi at that time.

Section 17A was inserted in Prevention of Corruption Act by the Central government in July 2018 through an amendment, making it mandatory for police, CBI or any other agency to seek prior approval for conducting any “enquiry” or “inquiry” or “investigation” into any corruption-related offences.
