President Murmu Unveils Rs 75 Commemorative Coin; Significance Of ‘Samvidhan Diwas’ On Nov 26

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu released commemorative coin of Rs 75 denomination and stamp dedicated to the 75th anniversary of adoption of Constitution of India on Tuesday before addressing both Houses at Parliament Central Hall.

She also released books titled “Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse” and “Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey”.

India observes Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas on November 26, marking the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. The Constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949, and came into effect on January 26, 1950, as the Constitution makers wanted to commemorate the declaration of Poorna Swaraj (Complete Independence) in 1930. In 2015, the government designated November 26 as Constitution Day to promote constitutional values and coincide with the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, widely regarded as the “chief architect” or “father” of the Indian Constitution. Earlier, the day was celebrated as Law Day.

“We are part of a historic moment, 75 years ago on this very day in this central hall of the Constitution House, the Constituent Assembly did the huge work of drafting the Constitution… Celebrations like these give us an opportunity to better the journey ahead… Our Constitution is a living and progressive document. Through our Constitution, we have achieved the goals of social justice and inclusive development…We are together in achieving national goals…,” Murmu said while paying tributes to the Constitution makers.

She also spoke about steps being taken by the government for the welfare of all sections of society, especially the weaker sections. “The government has given opportunities to all sections of the society, especially the weaker sections, the poor are getting permanent houses, electricity facilities are being provided, word-class infrastructure is being created on a large scale in the country…,” she said.

She also urged the citizens to imbibe the constitutional ideals into their behaviour and do their fundamental duties, and work towards achieving the national goal of a developed India by 2047.

The President, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Union Ministers JP Nadda, Kiren Rijiju and others read the Preamble to the Indian Constitution on the occasion.

The Preamble of the Constitution of India declares the country as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic and aims to secure justice, liberty, and equality for all citizens and promote fraternity to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation.

To mark the yearlong celebration, a special website — https: //constitution75.com — has been created to enable citizens to engage with the legacy of the Constitution through interactive activities and resources. The government campaign “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhimaan” aims to honour the contributions of the Constitution’s makers while “reiterating the core values enshrined in it,” according to a PIB release.
