Mumbai: President Droupadi Murmu has urged members of the film industry to be mindful of the products they endorse, particularly those that could affect public health.
Addressing the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony, she highlighted the influence celebrities have on audiences and said, “A true star is the one who spreads light, not darkness.”
“When successful artists speak about the benefits of a disciplined lifestyle, millions of children and young people emulate them. I urge popular artists not to endorse products that are harmful to people’s health. A true star is the one who spreads light, not darkness,” she said.
The President also called for greater representation of women on juries responsible for selecting films for the National Film Awards.
“I would like to see women’s participation ensured in every regional jury,” she said, noting that several women were among the award recipients at the ceremony.
She added that including women’s perspectives in different fields helps create a more holistic outlook.
Murmu also urged the film industry to ensure dignity and social security for workers, junior artists, assistants and others who contribute to the creative sector while striving to build their careers.
