Kendrapada: Police have arrested the prime accused in a gangrape case almost 4 years after the crime in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
As per the police complaint filed in the rape case, the prime accused, Maheswar Sahu of Kalaspur village under Nikirai police limit
s in the district was involved in a land dispute with the victim’s husband. In order to threaten the woman’s husband, Sahu along with his wife Jharana Sahu hatched a conspiracy.
As per their plan, Sahu and his accomplices kidnapped the woman and raped her on June 28, 2019. Following the crime, the victim’s husband had filed a complaint at Nikirai police station. He had alleged that 7 persons including Sahu and his wife were involved in committing the crime.
Acting on the complaint, the police had arrested 5 persons while Sahu and his wife were absconding. Later, the court acquitted 4 persons and sentenced one person to jail.
On Sunday, Sahu had come to his village to attend the last rites of his deceased mother. On being informed, a team from Nikirai police station arrested Sahu and forwarded him to SDJM Court. After the court rejected the bail application of Sahu, he was sent to jail at Barimula.
