Union minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan said on Sunday that prime tourist spots should switch to 100 per cent clean fuels.
Pradhan, addressing a virtual meet on World Tourism Day, opined that switching to clean fuels will protect our monuments and ensure a cleaner environment for the tourists.
The virtual meet, attended by Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel among others, was themed ‘Tourism and Rural Development’.
Pradhan praised the Ministry of Tourism for its novel initiative ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ that promotes India’s local heritage and tourist sites. He felt the country’s rich culture, history and ancient architectural wonders can propel a turnaround and growth in tourism industry, post the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pradhan proposed creating tourism sites which celebrate heroism of freedom fighters.
“Tourism industry offers unprecedented potential for employment generation and empowerment of our youth. Every district of our country has a historic story to share or a legend’s life to narrate… as India celebrates 75 years of independence in 2022, we must work on creating more tourism sites around the heroism of our freedom fighters,” he remarked.
