Priority Vaccine Push For 18+ Students Going Abroad

New Delhi: The Mumbai city administration and the Gujarat government have planned priority vaccination of students in the 18+ age group.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Friday that those going abroad for studies would be given priority among the 18-44-year age group for COVID-19 vaccination.

The city corporation has set aside three days in the week (Monday to Wednesday) for their vaccination without pre-registration.

The vaccination will take place at specified centres in Mumbai.

Earlier, BMC had halted shots for the 18-44 group due to shortage of vaccines.

Similarly, the Gujarat government is planning to vaccinate all 18+ students who will appear for the Class 12 board exams in the state due to begin on July 1.

According to officials, around 10 lakh students will appear for the Class 12 boards and Class 10 repeat exams. Out of them, the drive is expected to cover nearly 6 lakh students.

Confirming the move, Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama told The Indian Express: “We have analysed the district-wise data of students who are 18 years and above. But this will also depend on the availability of vaccine stocks, for which the state government will request the Central government to extend support.”
