Keonjhar: An undertrial prisoner, who allegedly tried to kill self in Keonjhar jail, died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College & Hospital (MCH) in Cuttack on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Ajay Das, 25, of Bhodabahali village under Keonjhar Sadar police limits. He was behind the bars on charges of misbehaving with a minor girl.
According to sources, the undertrial prisoner allegedly attempted suicide by hanging himself from a pipe connecting a septic tank inside the jail at 1.20 pm on Friday. He was rescued by the jail warders in a critical condition and rushed to district headquarters hospital her. He was shifted to SCB MCH around 3 pm as his condition deteriorated. However, he succumbed during treatment.
