He was identified as Bharasagara Sabara (40), a native of Kantapali village under Komana police limits in Nuapada district. He was lodged in the jail after being convicted in a woman harassment case.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the jail authorities, Bhawanipatna Town police have started conducting raids to nab him.
According to sources, he managed to escape while working in the garden, in front of the jail, at around 10.30 am on Friday.
The boundary wall of the jail garden is in a very bad shape, a police officer said.
On March 18, an under-trial prisoner (UTP) had escaped from a sub-jail in Kendrapara.
The UTP, Rangadhar Biswal of Mirzapur village under Nikirai police station limits of Kendrapara district, was arrested in 2014 in connection with a murder case.
He managed to escape by scaling the boundary wall of the jail, using a towel and lungi that he was wearing.
