Jodhpur: In a bizarre case, a 32-year-old inmate of Rajasthan’s Jodhpur central jail was found to be hiding four mobile phones in his rectum.
Prisoner Deva Ram, a native of Barmer, was rushed to a hospital after he complained of intolerable pain in his stomach and rectum on Friday.
“On Friday morning, the inmate identified as Deva Ram, who is lodged in Jodhpur central jail for the last 18 months, started complaining of unbearable pain. When asked about the cause, he confessed to have forcefully inserted mobile phones in his rectum. He was immediately taken to the hospital,” the Hindustan Times quoted Jodhpur central jail superintendent Kailash Trivedi as saying.
The doctors carried out X-ray and sonography tests, which revealed four small mobile sets were wrapped in a polythene inside his rectum. A small surgery was required to take the phones out.
The condition of Deva Ram, who was convicted in a case of unnatural offence, is stable.
Jail officials will ask Deva who had supplied him mobile phones inside the jail, once he is discharged from the hospital.
