Cuttack: The district administration has sealed a private hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack on the order of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
According to sources, Kishore Chandra Dash of Babalpur village under Mangalpur police station in Jajpur district was admitted in Chanakya Hospital, a private healthcare facility, at Ranihat in Cuttack city for treatment in 2021. During treatment, he succumbed in the hospital.
His family had filed a complaint with NHRC alleging that Kishore died due to negligence in medical services in the hospital. During hearing of the case, it was revealed that the hospital was not registered with the authorities concerned under Odisha Clinical Establishment Act.
The owner of the hospital stated that they had applied for approval of the building plan under Sarbakhyama Yojana of the state government. As the process for getting the approval was delayed, the approval for fire safety measures also came late and they could not register with the authorities. But the NHRC issued an ordered to seal the private hospital a few days.
Following the NHRC order, the officials of district administration and Health department sealed the private hospital on Saturday.
