Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed penalty on several establishments including a private hospital and a commercial bank in Odisha capital for violation of sanitation norms.
Continuing its drive against violators of its regulations on dumping garbage, the BMC imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on Sparsh Hospital situated at Kharvela Nagar in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
In a tweet, the BMC said the penalty was imposed on the hospital for “illegal dumping of mixed bio-medical waste”. “Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Khurda has been informed to initiate action as per Clinical Establishments (Registration & Regulation) Act against the Hospital,” it added.
On Friday, the municipal corporation collected a penalty of Rs 10,000 from a branch of Bank of Baroda at Jharpada in Ward 32. The bank was found dumping used and unnecessary papers and document in a drain near it.
Similarly, the BMC collected penalty of Rs 10,000 from Omm Medicine Store near the bank for poor sanitation measures like dumping of waste on road and drain.
