Mumbai: An MLA of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde-led camp sparked a controversy with a ‘mysoginistic’ comment targeted at Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) Sena MLA Priyanka Chaturvedi.
Sanjay Shirsat claimed that Priyanka was made a Rajya Sabha member after Aaditya Thackeray saw her beauty.
Quite expectedly, Shirsat’s remarks drew flak and were termed ‘misogynistic’.
Priyanka called him a traitor who sold his soul and integrity.
“I don’t need a traitor who sold his soul to tell me what I look like and why I am where I am,” Priyanka tweeted.
She added that it’s no wonder that the BJP has kept the Shinde group MLA with them.
“Sanjay Shirsat is a perfect example of the widespread sickness in his views on politics and women, he definitely displays his own vulgar character through his comments,” Priyanka said.
Aaditya slammed Shirsat, saying that he has a ‘rotten’ mindset.
“I don’t know how people with such a rotten mindset have survived in politics,” said Uddhav’s son.
Under fire, the Shinde camp MLA later attributed the controversial statement to Chandrakant Khaire, who belongs to the Uddhav faction of Shiv Sena.
Shirsat said Khaire, a former MP, had once told him about the Priyanka-Aaditya connection.
Shirsat hit back at Priyanka, stating that she had no right to call anyone ‘traitor’ as she had herself left the Congress and joined Shiv Sena.
Priyanka, who was a national spokesperson of the grand old party, switched over in 2019.
