Bhubaneswar: A day after the tragic mishap in which nine people including two women and seven children were drowned when a boat capsized in the Mahanadi confluence at Balighat near Nepania in Kendrapara district, the Odisha government on Thursday ordered a probe into the incident.
Informing the media here, Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu, said the Director and Executive Engineer of the Port and Inland Water Transport have gone to the spot while senior officials of Commerce and Transport Department are already present there.
“The team, which has begun probe into the cause of the mishap, will submit a report within a week after which appropriate action will be taken,” Sahu said.
Asked about the directive of his department on safety measures, he said that though his department has enforced strict rules and provisions, awareness among people is necessary to avert such mishaps.
