Balangir: A sub-inspector of police has been transferred and departmental probe launched against him following allegation that he accepted bribe from a labour agent in Odisha’s Balangir district, reports said on Wednesday.
The action was initiated against sub-inspector at Tureikela Deepak Dung Dung after a viral video showed him allegedly accepting money from a middleman, stated to be engaged in trafficking labourers from the district.
Based on the viral video, Balangir Superintendent of Police Kusalkar Nitin Dagudu has reportedly ordered a departmental investigation against the sub-inspector and transferred him to the district headquarters.
According to reports, Dung Dung allegedly accepted Rs 10,000 from the labour agent, identified as Narendra Bachhu without realising that the entire scene was being captured in CCTV camera. The scene went viral later.
Giving a clarification, the police sub-inspector claimed that he did not accept bribe from anyone and that the middleman was returning the money he had borrowed from him earlier.
However, the middleman gave a different story. He claimed that giving money to the police in advance is a routine affair in order to facilitate works.
