Probe Ordered Into Accident At Taladanda Canal In Odisha’s Cuttack City

Cuttack: A probe has been ordered into the death of a businessman, Gyana Ranjan Jena of Kandarpur, who died after his car plunged into Taladanda canal, currently under renovation, near Matru Bhawan in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Monday.

According to sources, the R&B superintendent engineer and sub-collector will conduct an investigation into the alleged negligence of the construction company in not putting up safety barricades and submit report to Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani.

While the 63-year-old businessman was declared dead at SCB Medical College and Hospital her, his wife Anjana (55), who survived the mishap, is under treatment.

It was alleged that the accident took place as there were no signage to warn the commuters about the construction work or safety barricades. Jena encountered narrow stretch on Matrubhaban-Nayabazar road near the construction site and the car skidded off the road as he tried to reverse and turned turtle after falling around 35 feet into the canal.

The accident took place around 1 pm.
