Bhubaneswar: In the wake of allegations of a sex racket going on in a college in Ganjam district, the Odisha government has ordered a probe into the scandal. The probe was ordered after the Higher Education department received reports about the alleged racket.
As per reports, the scandal was alleged to have surfaced at Science College in Hinjili. The department has asked the Berhampur Regional Director to conduct a probe after it was alleged that the sex racket was operating in the college during night over the last two years.
Following the direction from the department, the official concerned has initiated the process of physical verification and submission of the report after discussing the matter with students.
After thorough verification, the Higher Education department would be apprised about the factual position. Appropriate action would be recommended if the allegation is found to be true, said an official.
While the college authorities have termed allegation baseless, the issue has triggered a row with opposition BJP and Congress targeting the state government. They have alleged that similar scandals have come to light in several other colleges in the state.
