Prohibitory Orders Clamped In One More Odisha Town Ahead Of Hanuman Jayanti

Bhubaneswar: After Sambalpur, which witnessed violence during preparatory rally for Hanuman Jayanti, prohibitory orders under Section 144 (1) of CrPC have been clamped at Jeypore in Odisha’s Koraput district between 3 pm and 9 am till April 20.

“As per the telephonic conversation of the SDPO, Jeypore, that there is possibility of occurrence of breach of peace, law and order situation in Jeypore sub-division, I declare any such assembly and gathering of more than two persons or any efforts to create public nuisance to prevent public tranquility and peace to be unlawful,” the notification issued by the office of sub-collector Bedabara Pradhan said on Thursday.

The order came into force from 3 pm on April 13 for immediate prevention of such nuisance and safeguard of the life of general public, it added.

According to sources, the decision to enforce the prohibitory order was taken against the backdrop of violence in Sambalpur town where clashes erupted between two groups and intense stone pelting left 10 police personnel injured on Wednesday evening. Internet services have also been suspended for 48 hours in the district.

In Odisha, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Maha Vishuva Sankranti, which falls on April 14 this year.
