Kendrapada: Prohibitory orders were imposed in Aul area of Odisha’s Kendrapada district following a confrontation between the ruling BJP and opposition BJD over New Year celebrations.
As per preliminary information, a serious dispute cropped between the workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the erection of a decorative gate for New Year celebrations in Aul.
As tension prevailed in the area over the issue, the district administration imposed prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at Durga Mandap square of Aul Bazar and nearby areas to prevent further flare up.
The prohibitory orders will remain in force until further notice. The administration has prohibited any form of gatherings in the area.
Trouble cropped up when BJP workers tried to erect a gate at Durga Mandap Square at Aul as the move drew stiff opposition from BJD activists who stated that they had been doing for the last several years.
Tension erupted in the area following a confrontation between the two groups, prompting the police to intervene in order to maintain peace. Members from both sides were called to the local police station in an effort to resolve the row. However, both BJP and BJD were rigid to go ahead with plan to build the decorative gate.
In view of the escalating tension, the district authorities clamped prohibitory orders under Section 163, which prohibits public gatherings and activities in the area.
Security has been tightened and adequate police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident.
