A Home Guard in plain clothes was caught on camera thrashing a man accused of theft at Jharadihi station chhak under Tiring police limits in Mayurbhanj district. The incident took place on Thursday. The victim, a resident of Majhigaon, had lodged a complaint in this regard the same day.
Soon after the video went viral, IG Santosh Bala on Saturday directed the Home Guard Commandant to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and barred the delinquent from duty till the inquiry ends.
According to reports, the home guard identified as Upendra Behera mercilessly beat up Baya Sardar after tying up his hands and legs for allegedly stealing a bicycle from the locality.
Meanwhile, Nabarangpur SP transferred IIC of Dabugaon police station Subash Chandra Raiguru to the district headquarters. The IIC had allegedly crushed full grown maize crop of a farmer under his police vehicle at Gatiguda after the latter refused to remove barricades that blocked the way to a nearby plot that belonged to father-in-law of the policeman. The incident, which took place on Thursday, was also recorded in a mobile camera.
