Bengaluru: Protesters from pro-Hindu groups sported black clothes as they chanted slogans and also raised black flags against actor Prakash Raj ahead of his visit to Karnataka’s Kalaburgi over alleged ‘anti-Hindu’ statements in recent past.
Police have detained the protesters.
Members of a Hindu outfit also submitted a memorandum to Kalburgi district magistrate and deputy commissioner, explaining why they are against the views expressed by the actor.
They also demanded a that Raj be prohibited entry into the city.
Raj was scheduled to visit Kalaburgi to participate in an event following which he was expected to witness ‘Gayagalu’, a play based on human tragedy of war.
A few weeks ago, right wing members sprinkled cow urine and ‘purified’ the places Raj visited in Shivmogga district.
The multilingual actor has been a strong critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led Central government.
Three days before the Chandrayaan-3 landing on moon, Raj shared a cartoon of a tea seller on X with a cheeky caption “BREAKING NEWS:- First picture coming from the Moon by #VikramLander Wowww #justasking.”
The actor later claimed that it was a reference to a Malayalam joke.
“They say I am anti-Hindu but I say I am anti-Modi, anti-Amit Shah and anti-Hegde,” Raj had said at the India Today South conclave in Hyderabad five years ago.
He was then referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and late BJP leader Anant Kumar Hegde.
