Cuttack: In a novel way of protest, members of an organisation procured a unique gift for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) alleging poor sanitation in the millennium city.
Activists of ‘Subhash Sangathan’ took a new toilet pan to the office of the CMC as part of their protest against poor sanitation in the city.
Members of the outfit said that the civic body has built some toilet blocks in the city. However, most of these toilets are yet to be thrown open for the common people for their use, they claimed.
Accusing the CMC of having failed to improve the drainage system in the city, they threatened to intensify the agitation if the civic body fails to take immediate steps to allow people to use the newly-built toilet blocks before Bali Yatra, scheduled to kick off on the banks of Mahanadi river on November 27.
The protesters said they carried the toilet pan to the office of the civic body to gift it to the CMC Commissioner as part of their protest against poor sanitation in the city. The CMC should take immediate steps to allow people to use the newly-constructed toilet blocks. Besides, the civic body should build more such public toilets in the city, members of the outfit said.
