Dhenkanal: Tension prevailed at Dhenkanal Collectorate on Thursday after members of the District Lawyers’ Association clashed with the police during a protest.
A group of lawyers took out a huge rally and gheraoed the Collector’s office seeking immediate fulfillment of their demands including setting up of a new police outpost, stoppage of Rajdhani Express at Dhenkanal Railway Station and proper waste management system at the District Headquarters Hospital.
The agitators, who later attempted to barge into the Collectorate, were prevented by the police personnel. Irked over this, the lawyers threw eggs and tomatoes at the office.
“Traffic management is deteriorating in the district and no developmental work has been taken up since the new Collector took charge. We strongly condemn this. We will intensify the agitation if our demands are not met at the earliest,” an agitating lawyer said.
